Being a Mother - A medica ...
I am Sujatha Chakravarty, mother of two lovely children. Through this write-up, I want to share a life changing experience from the third month of my second pregnancy.
We were based in Switzerland at the time. One day when I went in for a check-up and my doctor suggested for a regular blood count test. I took the test and was anticipating the good news that all was well with my baby, however the results left me in a state of complete shock, confirming any pregnant woman's worst fears.
The doctor informed us that the test reports showed a drastic decline in my baby's blood count which meant that the baby had stopped growing. Which also meant that the baby was no longer alive and hence I was prescribed the required medication for the termination of the baby and asked to return home.
I could not believe what I had just been told, One could call it a mother's sixth sense but something kept telling me that my baby was alive. I was not going to take a chance so I decided to go for a scan to confirm what the good doctor had just shared.
The doctor did not agree at first, however I was not going to give up so easily. After consulting with the hospital director, we were given a go ahead for the ultrasound. To everyone's disbelief, the scan showed that my precious child was alive and growing. The doctor could only say that it was a MEDICAL MIRACLE !
However I believe it was only God's blessings that made me do what I did. From then on, everything went well until the d-day when I learnt that the same doctor was going to handle my delivery. It did make me anxious but then I just prayed to God.
Thankfully, all went well and I gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl, My daughter is 6 years now and every time I remember the above experience and how differently it could have ended, sends shivers down my spine.
Nothing parallels a mother's intuition and such is the bond between a mother and her child.
