How bad can a small bar of chocolate be for a child? For this toddler from Kerala, it was no less than a nightmare. Read to know how the child ended up in hospital after eating a chocolate. You will be surprised to know what his urine test results revealed.
A 4-year-old from Kerala complained of dizziness shortly after returning from school prompting his family to rush him to the hospital. The child’s mother asked his school teachers about what might have caused the sudden symptoms. One of the school teachers reportedly mentioned that she had seen the child eating chocolate.
To find the underlying cause of the symptoms, doctors performed a urine test, which led to a shocking revelation. The child’s urine allegedly contained traces of benzodiazepine, a depressant. The child had to be admitted to ICU for a couple of days as his blood pressure was on the higher side.

While the child’s family has alleged that the chocolate was responsible for his condition, police have revealed that another child who had eaten a part of the chocolate remained completely fine. What is even more surprising is that no one knows where the child got the chocolate from.
The investigating officer revealed, “It is unclear where he got the chocolate from or how the benzodiazepine entered the child’s body”. Following the initial investigation, no negligence was found on the part of the school authorities. They stated that the child was doing fine when he left the school with his grandfather. Interestingly, the child had initially told the police that his mother, who works as a lab technician, had given him the chocolate, but she had clearly denied it.
