A shocking video has surfaced online in which a class 8 student from a private school in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, can be seen taking her exams, while sitting alone, on a staircase outside her classroom. The student was reportedly forbidden from entering the classroom and surprisingly it was because of something that neither she nor any other female had control over. Read to find out. 

As per reports, the student was barred from entering the classroom because she was menstruating. The video, which was recorded by the girl’s mother, became viral and took social media by storm with people strongly criticizing the school authorities.

In the video, the girl can be heard saying that her teacher informed the principal about her periods, following which they both decided to forbid her from entering the classroom and made her write the exam while sitting on the stairs. Surprisingly this wasn’t the first time it had happened. The girl was allegedly asked to write her previous exam, which was 2 days back, in the same manner. 

Her mother’s voice can also be heard, saying “If someone gets their period, does that mean they cannot sit inside the classroom and write their exams? Should they sit on the road and write?”

A show-cause notice has been issued against the school management by the District Education Officer. The school authorities have alleged that the principal who is responsible for this has been placed on suspension. The school authorities have also made a shocking claim stating that it was the mother who informed them about the girl’s menstruation and asked them to make her sit separately in the first place. 

While the country is making so much progress in every aspect, taboos related to menstruation and female sexual well-being continue to persist in some areas. It’s shocking and disheartening at the same time. What do you think?
