Bullying and mocking may seem like harmless fun to some, but it can do more harm to a person than one can imagine. While some may brush it off as “children being children”, the ones on the receiving end might end up with deep mental and emotional scars that can push them to a point where they can do something unimaginable or compel them to take a drastic step. Something similar happened with 17-year-old Kishore, a class 12 student from Chennai, who eventually ended his life. Read to know more.

Kishore was reportedly mocked and bullied by three of his classmates for his appearance. They repeatedly called him “ugly”, “skinny”, & “dark” and made fun of him. When Kishore’s father discovered what his son had been enduring, he wasted no time and filed a complaint against the three students. Unfortunately, by the time this happened, the damage had already been done.

As per reports, Kishore returned from school around 2:30 p.m., visibly disturbed. He asked his mother if he could go out cycling but she asked him to stay at home. Later, she realized that he had quietly left. She looked for him everywhere and finally found him on the terrace, sitting very close to the edge.

Sensing what her son was up to, Kishore’s helpless mother tried to talk him out of it, but it was all in vain. Around 6:15 pm, the 17-year-old jumped from the building. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Kishore was one of the many children who are subjected to bullying and mocking every day, despite it being banned in India. The question is, ‘Are we, as parents, doing enough to protect our children?’ There is a dire need to raise awareness, talk to our children, and create a safe space where they can share any such experience with us before it’s too late.
