The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 started with a massive gathering of millions of devotees from all across the globe. The religious event was believed to be attended by almost 40 crore people and the preparations to host such a huge crowd have been going on for months. This included the establishment of a Central Hospital in Mahakumbhnagar, Prayagraj, that surprisingly witnessed the birth of not just one but 2 babies, a boy and a girl, who were named Kumbh and Ganga respectively, with the consent of their families.
Kumbh is a month of the Indian Solar Calendar that overlaps the 2nd half of January and 1st half of February. It is the Indian representation of the Zodiac Sign Aquarius. The word Kumbha also signifies a pot or pitcher containing the immortal nectar.
In Hindu mythology, Ganga is the goddess of spiritual purification and forgiveness who signifies beauty. River Ganga holds immense significance and is considered to be the holiest river in India.
The 100-bed Central Hospital has been set up in the Parade area of the Maha Kumbh Mela, to cater to the medical needs of millions of devotees. The hospital has a dedicated OPD, General Ward, Delivery Room, ICU and Operating Unit. The hospital has separate wards for adults and children, as well as males and females.
