Did You Know? Kareena Was ...
Kareena Kapoor is a name that needs no introduction. She is one of Bollywood’s most acclaimed actresses, who has appeared in more than 60 Bollywood movies and won our hearts with stellar performances. However, during Covid Lockdown, she came face to face with a challenging situation that made her call Aamir Khan and ask him to replace her in Advait Chandan’s 2022 movie Laal Singh Chaddha (the Indian remake of Forest Grump), that too when the shooting was 50 to 60 percent complete. Read to know the reason.
On the Actors Roundtable by The Hollywood Reporter India, Kareena recalled the time when she was shooting for the movie and shared that she got pregnant with Jeh.
“We had Covid, and then I got pregnant. I was like, ‘Oh my god! We’re in the middle of this movie and I have to call up Aamir and tell him that it's Covid. We're 50-60% into the movie and I'm pregnant.”
She shared that her husband, Saif Ali Khan, suggested that she should talk to Aamir. “We're stuck in this situation that we don't even know when this lockdown is going to open, what's going to happen. You don't even have to say it's a mistake. Things happen, we've been home for a year and a half. Don't be scared, just pick up the phone.” she recalled Saif telling her.
Kareena shared that she was scared because she didn’t know how Aamir would react to the news since they were in the middle of the shoot.
Finally, Kareena picked up her phone and made the call. She shared “I just called him and told him, ‘I don’t know if you want to replace me, if you can, but this is it. I'm a mother and I want to have my second child. So should I be saying sorry, I don't even know.' I was literally mumbling like I am right now”
Aamir responded, “I’m so happy for you. We're going to do this, and we're going to do this together. I'm going to wait for you, and whatever it takes, I'm going to make this happen.”
Aamir’s response gave her a sign of relief. “There are people in the industry who value you for just going on with your life and standing by your decision. I was so happy he did it and we made this movie. Everyone loved it or didn't love it, but that's just the way life is,” Kareena added.
Jeh was born on February 21, 2021. After almost 7 months of his birth, in September 2021, Kareena returned to the sets to complete the movie, which was then released on August 11, 2022.
