With the help of neighbours, Tanya was immediately rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, the child had already lost her life. Tanya’s father, Mohit Kumar was at work when the tragedy struck. As per police investigations, Tanya was playing with an iron nail that she found in the house and she reportedly inserted it into the socket which led to the devastating accident.

How Electric Shock Affects A Child

How electric shock affects a child predominantly depends on the intensity of the shock. In mild cases, it can lead to muscle contractions, numbness, pain, and weakness. In extreme cases, it can lead to severe internal damage, burns, cardiac arrest, and even death.

Children are naturally curious and often, when you stop them from doing something, they would want to do it even more. You can’t stop a child from being a child but you can take some simple steps to make sure their safety is not compromised.

Preparedness and prevention play a key role in safeguarding our little ones. Here are a few things that you can do to make your home shock-safe for children.

    1. Use socket covers to cover up all the unused outlets. These are highly helpful and easily available in the market.

    2. Don’t keep the electrical cords lying in the house, especially when they are plugged in, especially chargers.

    3. Do not keep your little ones unattended, especially in rooms where electrical appliances are plugged in or where there are unused sockets.

    4. Perform regular inspections to check for potential electrical hazards, especially in areas where your child spends most of their time.

What To Do If Your Child Gets An Electric Shock

The first and most crucial step is to turn off the source of electricity and separate your child. Do not touch them unless the power source is disconnected. This way you will not only hurt yourself but also won’t be able to help them.

If you are not able to turn off the power source, use an object made of non-conducting material to free them. Be very careful while you do so.

If the child is not breathing or does not have a pulse, call for help and start CPR immediately.
