In a recent conversation with Vicky Lalwani, Junaid revealed that he was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was just 6 and it was after Aamir Khan read the script for Taare Zameen Par that he came to know about the diagnosis.
“Actually, I think it was a little bit the other way around. When they heard the script of Taare Zameen Par, they were like, ‘Ek second… We have seen this in our lives.’ And actually, it was at that point that they took me to a specialist, and I was diagnosed with dyslexia” Junaid revealed.
He also shared that he was never forced to get high marks or excel in academics and the main focus was on his holistic development and well-being. Neither of my parents were particular (about my results)… I was also diagnosed with dyslexia very early on. So, I think they were mindful of that, especially in schooling.”
The movie explores the struggles of an 8-year-old boy, Ishan Awasthi (played by Darsheel Safary), who is often misunderstood by his family, teachers, and friends. As the story unfolds, we get to know that Ishaan is suffering from dyslexia. It is his new art teacher, Nikumbh (played by Aamir Khan) who discovers why Ishaan is the way he is and helps him unlock his true potential by igniting his creativity and imagination. The movie emphasizes the importance of harbouring a more inclusive education system that nurtures the curiosity of every child while catering to their unique needs.
