A Mother’s Plea For Justice: How A Young Boy’s Life Was Cut Short By Brutal Ragging
Story behind it

In a shocking and deeply heartwrenching turn of events, a couple from Kochi, India has alleged that their 15-year-old son, Mihir Ahammed, ended his life after he was brutally bullied and ragged by his classmates. The class 9 student from Global Public School, Thiruvaniyoor near Chottanikkara, reportedly jumped from the 26th floor of his apartment building after being abused mentally and physically for his skin colour, according to his mother.

Mihir’s parents have filed an official complaint along with relevant evidence. His mother, Rajna, also shared a note on social media, explaining the circumstances that compelled Mihir to take such a drastic step. Mihir’s schoolmates allegedly assaulted him in the school bus and took him to the washroom forcibly, where he was made to lick the toilet seat. It didn’t end here. Mihir’s head was reportedly shoved into the toilet and flushed.

The note, titled “A Mother’s Plea For Justice: My Son’s Life Cut Short By Brutal Ragging” reads,

“Kochi, January 30, 2025: A formal police complaint has been filed regarding the tragic death of my 15-year-old son, Mihir Ahammed, and I have also submitted a detailed letter to the Director General of Police (DGP), seeking urgent intervention and justice. Mihir, my beloved son, took his life on January 15, 2025, after enduring relentless ragging and bullying at his school, Global Public School, Thiruvaniyoor, Ernakulam.

I am Rajna P.M., a grieving mother fighting for justice for my son, who was a happy, active, and loving child. On that fateful day, Mihir returned home from school at 2:45 PM, and by 3:50 PM, my world came crashing down as he jumped from the 26th floor of our home in Choice Paradise, Thripunithara, Kochi, ending his life.

After his death, my husband and I began gathering information to understand why Mihir took such a drastic step. Through conversations with his friends, and schoolmates, and by reviewing social media messages, we uncovered the horrific reality of what he endured. Mihir was subjected to brutal ragging, bullying, and physical assault by a gang of students at school and on the school bus.

The evidence we gathered paints a chilling picture. Mihir was beaten, verbally abused, and forced to endure unimaginable humiliation even on his last day. He was forcibly taken to the washroom, made to lick a toilet seat, and had his head pushed into the toilet while it was flushed. These acts of cruelty broke him in ways we cannot fathom.

He was bullied for his skin color. They didn't end the cruelty even after his death. A shocking chat screenshot reveals the extent of their cruelty. They messaged "f**k nigga he actually died" and celebrated his death.

An Instagram page titled "Justice for Mihir" was created by his friends, shedding light on these incidents. However, the page has now been deleted, and there are reports that the school is intimidating students to suppress the truth. When I approached the school authorities with evidence and demanded accountability, they only informed me that the information was forwarded to the police. I strongly believe they are attempting to cover up these incidents to protect the school's reputation.

I have submitted a detailed petition to the Chief Minister's Office and DGP along with the evidence, urging an immediate and impartial investigation. A First Information Report (FIR) has already been registered as FIR No. 42/2025 at Hill Palace Police Station, Thripunithara. However, I fear delays in gathering digital evidence may allow the culprits to erase their tracks.

I have also submitted a petition to the Child Commission, requesting an inquiry into the harassment Mihir faced at the hands of the vice principal of his previous school, GEMS Kochi.”

While investigations are going on, Rajna has urged the legal system to serve justice.

Note: Ragging in India has been completely banned under the Ruling made by the Supreme Court in 2001. As per the Indian Law Watch, “Ragging is originally a Western concept and was originally a form of social interaction between seniors and juniors in schools and colleges. However, these interactions have taken a very brutal, inhuman, and anti-social form at times.”
