Schools are believed to be the safe haven of learning and growth, but, in the past few months, some are making it to the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The 12-year-old Prince was declared dead on arrival at South Delhi’s Fortis Hospital. The 6th class student from Kudumpur Pahari, Vasant Vihar was dropped off at school by his father Sagar before leaving for work. At around 9:45 am, Sagar, who is a sewer line worker in Vasant Vihar Society, got a call from Prince’s school, informing him that his son was hurt. Sagar was first taken to Holy Angels Hospital, from where he was referred to Fortis Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors at Fortis declared him dead on arrival.
Initial observations suggest no signs of any injury, however, police did notice a foam-like substance coming out of his mouth, pointing towards the possibility of convulsions. DCP (South West), Surendra Chaudhary told the press, “Upon inspection, no visible injuries were found on the body. However, some foam-like substance was oozing from his mouth. Doctors initially suggested that the boy might have suffered from a convulsion-related condition. However, inquest proceedings are underway, and school staff and students are being questioned.”
Prince’s parents, on the other hand, are not ready to believe that their son died a natural death. His father told PTI “My son was completely healthy and had no history of fits. He would even play football and was a good player, participating in inter-school tournaments and winning several medals,” He further claimed, “Some students told us that Prince had a fight with a classmate during which he collapsed. School teachers then rushed him to a hospital,”
Investigations are still going on but a precious life has come to an end. The question is, if there was really a fight, why were the students left without any supervision?
