“He Beat Mummy A Lot” – How A 4-Year-Old Helped Solve Her Mom’s Murder Mystery

4-year-old Darshita’s life took a tragic turn when she witnessed something no child should ever have to see – her mother’s life allegedly being taken right in front of her eyes. What was initially thought to be a suicide is now being investigated as a possible murder and the prime suspect, happens to be Darshita’s father Sandeep Budholia. Read to know how Darshita’s statement and drawing served as proof of her mother Sonali’s murder. 

27-year-old Sonali Budholia from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, was found lifeless in her house on Monday, February 17, under mysterious circumstances. Her in-laws claimed that she had committed suicide, however, in a shocking twist of events, her 4-year-old daughter has reportedly revealed that it was her father who had strangled her mother. To support her statement, Darshita even drew a sketch illustrating the whole incident. 

Gyanendra Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, revealed that "The incident took place on Monday evening in Panchvati Colony. Initially, it was reported as a case of suicide by hanging, but a dispute arose between the victim's in-laws and her maternal family at the medical college where they alleged murder."

“Papa hit and killed Mummy and told her, ‘Die if you want.’ He hanged her body and hit her head with a stone. Later, he brought her down and dumped her inside a sack," little Darshita shared in her statement.

She further added, “I once warned him that if you hit my mother, I will break your hand. He would hit her, saying she should die and that I should have the same fate as her.”

While the investigations are still going on, it is surprising to see how a 4-year-old has managed to cope with such a traumatic event, especially given the complexity of the situation. Darshit performed the last rites of her mother. “My father killed my mother and ran away. That is why I have cremated her” she said.
