On 28th January, when the child’s father went to pick him up after school, at around 12:30 pm, he was surprised to find that his son was not with the other students. He enquired about the same from the staff but was directed to talk to the school management. He was informed that his son was kept in the daycare centre along with another child, for pending dues. “I paid Rs 1,000 on the spot and around 1 pm, my son was handed over to me,” he shared.

The child’s father also requested the school authorities to give him the CCTV footage of the premises but was asked to mail an application for the same. When the school failed to provide the footage, he approached higher authorities and urged police to take action against the school management.

The CCTV footage that was later received shows that the 5-year-old along with another student was detained from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The case has been registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, which aims to

“Consolidate and amend the law relating to children alleged and found to be in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection by catering to their basic needs through proper care, protection, development, treatment, social re-integration, by adopting a child-friendly approach in the adjudication and disposal of matters in the best interest of children and for their rehabilitation through processes provided, and institutions and bodies established, hereinunder and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto”
