Lata Mangeshkar was born in the year 1929 in a middle-class family in Indore.

Lata Didi's father Dinanath Mangeshkar was also a singer.

Lata Mangeshkar started singing at the age of 5 and was homeschooled in music.

Lata Mangeshkar was able to go to school only for 2 days in her lifetime, her early education, initiation, and music training took place at home.

Lata Mangeshkar's brothers Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, Meena Mangeshkar, and Asha Bhosle remained associated with the field of singing.

When Lata Mangeshkar was 13 years old, her father passed away.

After the death of her father, being the eldest daughter of the house, the responsibility of raising the family was on her shoulders.

Lata Mangeshkar had to face a lot of struggles in her initial work days.

Lata Mangeshkar also did small roles in films due to shortage of money.

Lata Mangeshkar decided not to marry to attend to her family responsibilities.

She got 25 rupees as earnings for singing a song on stage. This was her first paid work. 

Filmmaker Shashadhar Mukherjee rejected Lata Mangeshkar's voice pointing that her voice is too thin.

Lata Mangeshkar learned not to despair and got her first break from the Musician Ghulam Haider.

In the year 1942, Lata Didi sang for the first time in a Marathi film.

She sung more than 30,000 songs in more than 20 languages.

Lata Mangeshkar considered music as her spiritual practice & she did not wear slippers or shoes while singing.

In 2001, Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award.

She sang 'Chal Mere Ghode Tik-Tik Tik' and many such lullabies, especially for children.

Even today, every Indian gets emotional listening to Lata Mangeshkar's song 'Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon'.
