5 Fun Ideas For Children' ...
Children’s Day holds special memories for all of us. It meant being treated in a special way, at school, teacher’s putting up a performance, giving us a treat and eventually the chutti. But somehow at home, it got ignored...it just meant chutti! But let’s make it special for our children. Here are some ideas to explore.
1) Adopt an animal: Make this Children’s Day memory really special for them, by helping them adopt a pet. If you aren’t the types to get a pet at home, take the child to an animal shelter where she can pick her own pet. Help her tend to the pet, offer her food, and take care. This is though a long term responsibility so be ready to participate wholeheartedly.
2) Meal Managers: This one day, let them indulge in home-made junk! If pasta is what they like, serve it to them. Make pasta or pizza at home (you can sneak in healthy choices such as using wholewheat pasta and adding veggies). Offer chocolate milkshakes, muffins, chocolate ice creams. Also spike up the meal time. Pack lunch and take it to the park or call over a friend at home to share lunch. Don’t forget the extra dollops of chocolate sauce on their food!
3) Who is the boss: Tag your child as the boss of the day. He or she decides what they want to eat, when they want to eat, where they want to go, what they want to do etc., and you follow instructions. Younger ones can be guided by being given options—do you want to go for a picnic or to your friend’s house?
4) Family time: Gather members of the family—aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews—and put up a show for the little ones. Gather funny family photos and show it to the children through a projector narrating the episode behind the photograph. Or plan a drama time where the adults can pitch in to put up a show for the children.. Use props, animated voices, dresses, makeup, masks et all to give a real feel.
5) Plan a movie night: Collect two-three favourite short movies of children and enjoy them together as a family. Throw in the works—popcorns, refreshing drinks, quick bites and just lounge with the little ones on the couch watching them.
And lastly, don’t forget to tell your child, how special he or she is to you!
